Antibiotics are usually needed.

Oral antibiotics are sufficient when symptoms are mild.

Liquid or low fiber foods are advised during acute diverticulitis attacks.

In severe diverticulitis with high fever and pain, patients are hospitalized and given intravenous antibiotics.
