A standard arrangement of the chromosome complement done for chromosome analysis.

For example, a normal human female karyotype would have 22 pairs of autosomes (non-sex chromosomes) arranged in numerical order together with two X chromosomes.

The term 'karyogram' is a less used synonym for a karyotype.
