Recurrences are, unfortunately, frequent.
Remission may occur after several years.
The disease can be due to the baby contracting human papilloma virus (HPV) during birth through the vaginal canal from a mother with genital warts (which are due to HPV).
Each year, about 300 infants are born with the virus on their vocal cords because of maternal transmission.
