Rupture, uterine
A tear of the uterus, an uncommon but very serious situation that may result in hysterectomy, urologic injury to the woman, a need for blood transfusion, maternal death, and perinatal complications including neurologic impairment or death of the baby.
Causes of uterine rupture include trauma, labor with an unusually large baby, multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets, etc), and vaginal delivery after a prior C-section (in which the old C-section scar ruptures)
